To encourage the marriage of manufacturing and art, Kohler has long encouraged world-renowned artists to become part of the enamel and ceramics industry. At the John David Kohler Art Center, artists collaborate closely with Kohler staff to freely apply both time-honored and cutting-edge technologies to create new, classic works of art, in turn paving the way for more creative expression.

Kohler’s launch into the art world came in 1929, when the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City included the KOHLER Black Series and chrome accessories in its exhibition for bathroom art, formally establishing the core position of the bathroom in interior design.

Other milestones include:

2002 Sok_TM overflowing bath and laminar-flow bath filler are the recipients of prestigious Gold and Silver Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEAs), respectively, from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).

2005 Purist Hatbox_TM toilet won the Gold award for Design Excellence from the U.S. Industrial Design Institute.

2006 WaterTile_TM shower won the German Hannover Design Award.

2007 Purist Hatbox toilet concept won the International Red Dot Design Award, the DTV_TM thermostatic shower system received the Kitchen & Bath Star Honorable-Mention prize.

2007 Purist bathroom furniture series received the Kitchen & Bath Star Best Value Award.
